Computer/Wireless Internet Use and Filtering Policy
The City of Tipton Municipal Library District provides internet access as an extension of its commitment to meeting the informational needs of the community. The Library has no control over the information accessed through the internet and cannot be held responsible for its content. The internet is a worldwide community with a highly diverse user population and it is the public's responsibility to use this resource wisely.
Use and Filtering
- Repeat users must have a card.
- Person must be in good standing with the library with no outstanding fines or materials in order to use Wi-Fi or public computers.
- Household members will lose privileges until household is clear of fines. Households lose privileges when materials are over 8 weeks late.
- Patrons are allowed one hour of public computer use per day.
- Librarians will provide limited assistance to patrons/public with their own computers or library public computers.
- Access to the internet through the Library must be used in a responsible manner, respecting the rights of others, and taking care with use of the equipment. Computer and internet settings may not be changed. Computers may not be used for any fraudulent or unlawful purpose, including any activities prohibited under any applicable federal, Missouri, or local laws. (Missouri Revised Statutes 573.010 and 573.060).
Pornographic or sexually explicit site use will not be tolerated. All computers within the Library, including staff computers, are filtered for pornographic and sexually explicit websites in accordance with the Children's Internet Protection Act. Patrons connecting to the Library's network with their own laptops or PCs will also be filtered for pornographic and sexually explicit websites. All library privileges will be revoked permanently if these types of sites are used. The patron will immediately lose all library privileges and be told to leave library property. The patron can approach the Board after one year to request reinstatement; it will be the discretion of the Board of Trustees to reinstate all or partial librar
